Barton to Anonymous Lock

Monday dawns and we are all togged up for the wet weather.

Passing Barton Marina

Meandering along to Bidford Grange Lock

Arkholme making its approach

The cost of Bidford Grange Lock ( formerly known as Pilgrim Lock) was donated by the Pilgrim Trust and was hand built with thousands of steel-reinforced concrete blocks by men from Gloucester Gaol.

A few "African Queen" moments....

on to Welford Lock, adorned with flowers.

The lock was paid for by the Cadbury Family.

Fabulous riverside properties here abouts

Approaching Binton Bridges....

and what a bridge.....

Just beyond the bridge is the Four Alls Pub where we had hoped to moor for the night....

on to Luddington Lock then!!!

Donated by the family of Stan Clover who worked untiringly for the Navigation along with other volunteers without whose assistance the Trust could not have achieved its aim.

Emptying the lock was surprisingly turbulent and the boats had to be held on ropes

Margaret casting off

Still no room at the inn so its on to Weir Brake Lock (Anonymous Lock)

Anonymous Lock commemorates all those who donated funds towards restoration of the Upper Avon, including an individual who made a staggering donation of £100,000
The biggest, the best and the last of the new locks was built in thirty-eight days by boys from Hewell Grange Borstal and other volunteers who then quickly built the weir.

Jola and Charlotte following on.

Finally our resting place for the night.

7 miles and 4 locks
(limbering up for the Stratford on Avon Canal!!!)
