Looking back at Upton-on-Severn and on the move again after being delayed by windy weather.
One of the new aggregate wharves which have brought welcome barge traffic back to the river.
Arkholme is taking the lead today
Mythe Bridge - a single iron span dating from 1825 and the work of Thomas Telford.
The water works which was once contaminated by flood water from the river!!!
Confluence of the River Avon where we shall be venturing on our return from Sharpness.
Approaching Upper Lode Lock and the beginning of the tidal section of the River Severn, however it is only tidal when tides are above 7.6m at Sharpness when the Lock Keeper will advise on the safest time to leave the lock.
The Lock Keeper lowers us a bucket containing a useful instruction sheet about the passage downstream to Gloucester.
Mr Cormorant
Caravans come on stilts!!!
These signs are really useful for working out where we are. Normally we are guided by bridges ( and their numbers) which are few and far between on the River Severn.
Tidying up a fallen tree.
At Upper Parting (where the river splits) boaters are encouraged to telephone ahead so the lock into Gloucester
can be made ready.
Now the lock takes 8 boats and we have radioed ahead to say there are four of us and two boats ahead so happy days we are all able to go straight in........
but two bright sparks didn't.......
so Jola and Charlotte have to moor, with the stern rope first, onto the wall chains battling the current drawing them towards the unnavigable channel to Lower Parting.
Safely moored in Gloucester Dock.
The National Waterways Museum had to be visited!!
The beautiful Mariners Chapel.
So here we are for two nights........and the gremlins have paid us a visit......the water pump has packed in........and after a lot of searching on the Internet we are waiting for a new one to be delivered.
