Sunday Cruising - Hillmorton to Ansty

The reflective mood of the canal this morning as we leave the outskirts of Hillmorton

Passing Clifton Cruisers and this boat is off on its travels....by road!!!

Canalside art depicting the transport history of Rugby

Without doubt only room for one!!!!

Our first view of Rugby is this canal side park.

Trev is on a mission for a Tesco visit..... only 5 minutes walk from here.

Its a lovely Sunday morning with plenty of boats on the move.

The embankments and cuttings that characterise the northern section of the Oxford date from 'shortenings', undertaken between 1829 and 1834,which eliminated no less than fifteen miles between Hawksbury and Braunston .

At intervals, sections of the original route join and leave the canal beneath the spans of elegant cast-iron bridges made by Horsley Iron Works Company of Tipton. Many of these arms are no longer navigable however some have been put to good use in the shape of marina moorings.

Bridges abound!!!

Newbold tunnel and despite it being two way Trev decided to wait it out as space looks tight.

It is only 250 yards long and takes a matter of a few minutes to navigate.

Heading for sunshine.

This old style working boat follows on.

Beyond this bridge lies Rose Narrowboats, alot quieter than our last passage through here in 2014

We see loads of Canal & River Trust work boats lounging around the system and its good to see they are attending to the 'bum blacking' business.

With the M6 on the horizon we have a distant 'Stobart' moment.

However we have more success with a Arkholme/Virgin moment!!!!

Its 10 1/2 miles since leaving Hillmorton and time to call it a day at the small village of Ansty.  Coventry awaits us tomorrow.
