Marston to Atherstone Flight

We enjoy the last of the countryside before skirting around the edges of Nuneaton and its varying aspects.....

Allotments.....

Canal side places of relaxation....

Moorings....

Starline Boats.....

Green space.....

New build.....

The tardis?????

and the countryside rules once more!!!

Near Boon's Wharf, an impressive telegraph pole, complete with cross-arms and insulators, remains intact, an isolated remnant of a network which once lined the canal.

A reminder of the once quarries and spoil heaps which are now landscaped, with many transformed into nature reserves.

Waterways maintenance yard at Hartshill with its elegant clock-tower.

Approaching Atherstone flight of 11 locks and whoop whoop there are volunteers!!!

Looking back on the basin.

In typical Coventry fashion - the chambers fill slowly yet empty quickly.

We will have descended eighty feet when we reach the bottom.

Surely one of the most enjoyable sections of the Coventry Canal.

The volunteers help us through the first five locks then we are left to ourselves for the remaining three pairs, however there is a team of painting volunteers in action here complete with a lockie.

Trev having time out while we wait for a exiting boat.

Moored at the bottom of the flight and ready for a well earned rest.

9 miles and 11 locks
