Sellars Br. to Saul Junction

Only a four mile hop down to Saul Junction.

Such beauty

Arkholme is on automatic pilot and Trev is well pleased by the width and depth of the canal.

Approaching Parkend Bridge we have a flashing red light which tells us the bridge is open and that there is a boat coming in the opposite direction.

Our turn now.

At almost every bridge is a bridge keeper's cottage.  These cottages are peculiar to the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal and have great charm - they are only single story buildings, but each one has a substantial classical facade with fluted Doric columns and pediment.

Looking towards the Cotswold Hills

A derelict  'dumb barge' with a mock cargo of reeds and water.

Moored up .......

and the swan family come to greet us.

Saul Junction is where the now derelict Stroudwater Canal intersects the G & S.  Restoration is progressing under the auspices of The Cotswold Canals Trust......

or will it be the 'Far Canal' !!!!

This section towards the marina is still in water and very much alive.

Tomorrow is another short hop to Patch Bridge and a trip to Slimbridge Wildfowl and Wetlands Centre.
