The long decent into Leicester

Ooops who put that bridge there.....

We have teamed up with Dave and Beryl, NB Sokai for our trip down into Leicester.

Lots of gossipping being done all round.

Surprisingly the canal manages to edge its way round suburbia

The ground paddles lock on a water mate key....yet another variation.

The Grand Union Leicester Line meets the River Soar at Kings Lock, Aylestone. When Rolts did the trip in 1939 he moored here and took the tram to the city centre.

With the chimney safely down Trev wins this bridge encounter.

On to Leicester... are we really heading for a city?

Industry begins to creep in.

Freemans Meadow Lock with the weir on the right.

Navigations notes : "The canal and River soar meet just above Freeman's Meadow Lock, where their is an enormouse unprotected weir. Care is needed, especially in time of flood.  KEEP WELL OVER TO THE TOWPATH SIDE"
Trev considers the short cut but waits for the lockers(who have been busy with their camera's) to catch up.

Leicester City Football Ground

Unusual housing.

Wildlife alive and well.

The skyline.

The mile straight with its canal side walk under the ornamental bridges that lead straight to the city centre.

Secure mooring is recommended at Castle Gardens.......What.....only space for four boats.......next recommended stop Birstall..... two miles and four locks away!!!!!!

We do get to see the National Space Centre.

Birstall - Seven and three quarter hours, 12 miles and sixteen locks.......its off to the White Horse for tea.
