Birstall to Mountsorrel - A Short Hop

Goodbye Birstall onward to Mountsorrel, six miles and four locks away.

At Thurmaston lock a trip boat was waiting to come up and their crew very kindly locked us through.

More of the water park lurks beyond the trees.

Bridges are few and far between.

Getting the evil eye!!!

Visiting family to Sokai = more hands on deck.

The confluence of the Wreake and the Soar takes place upstream from Cossington Lock.

Two out two in at Silbey Lock = happy days!!

The mill at Silbey was originally used for grinding corn and prior to its closure in the 1930's it was owned by a firm making leather board for Leicester's shoe industry.  Nowadays it's a candlestick works.

Quote from the first mate " No Trev don't get any ideas"

There seems to be precious little moorings available on the Soar and the only place to be found was pub moorings in the Shadow of this lovely bridge. Of course that meant  we had to pay the pub a visit, purely to ok our over night stay and to do a wreaky for some sort of football tournament that on at the moment!!!
