The Wharf at Fenny Compton is well worth a visit. The food was to die for and had a interesting range of ciders, just what was needed after a hard days cruising. It also boasted a shop selling basic provisions.
Interesting outside memorabilia
Beyond Fenny Compton is a 'narrow section' and thankfully we didn't meet any on coming boats.
A 'African Queen' moment or two
and a developing issue at what was bridge 140....
on a slant up against piling whilst the on coming boat came through.....and there we stayed stuck in the mud......we tried to push the back end off with the pole....no movement what so ever.....forward....reverse and tiller in all positions.....
and a variety of ******* words later and the front end was up against the opposite bank....Trev managed to jump off and pull the back end off the mud bank......
Captains quote
" Not sworn as much since I had to reverse back a mile and a half on the Lancaster"
Claydon Locks and a queue to go down
and a canal and river trust operative managing the low water level
Final lock of 5 and we moored for the night just beyond.
We awoke to much needed rain.
VERY STRANGE scarecrows down in the South
Only 3 locks today and all one in one out.
Moored a Cropredy the home of the annual fold festival centred around Fairport Convention, one of Trev's favourite groups. So it off to explore this afternoon.
