Birmingham to Fazeley Canal

The Birmingham & Fazeley Canal will take us down out of the city and link us with the Coventry Canal at Fazeley Junction. Turning north east off the main line brought us to Cambrian Wharf and the services.

It begins with 2 flights of locks , Farmers Bridge locks - a flight of 13 quickly followed by Aston flight of 11.
Yes that's 24 locks in the first 2 miles!!!
No problem for us as we have two very willing volunteers in the shape of  Beryl's sister Anne and her partner Nigel.

When these guy's move they move - Beryl and I were caught on the hop!!!

Farmer's Bridge Locks pass through and beneath the commercial core of the city.

These lines of poetry found on this lock arm are part  poet laurel Jo Bell's tribute to the canal system when Canal and River Trust came into being in 2010
"Carefully step at a time a river
climbs down beneath the town".

Beneath British Telecom's communications tower.

Lock 13

and time for the humans to refuel!!!

Aston Junction - B & F meets Digbeth Branch
and the start of Aston Locks

and a super fast cycle track!!!!

Sokai bringing up the rear.

The final lock of the day

Goodbye Birmingham you are in safe hands!!!

Our mooring for the night at Cuckoo Wharf.

Trev doing bank maintenance making way for Sokai to moor.

and so that's 24 locks, 3 miles in just under 3 1/2 hours and time to tuck into one of Beryl's tasty lamb dinners. Many thanks to Ann and Nigel for their invaluable help, what star's!!!!
